I love dinosaurs. The T-Rex is my particular favorite, to the point of being a mascot for my LuLaRoe business. Which makes it kind of strange perhaps that I have never seen the original Jurassic Park movies. When I was a kid my parents wouldn't let me seem them because they were deemed "too scary", and as an adult, I've just never taken the time. I did, however, see the first Jurassic World movie starring Chris Pratt and...well, other people, but I pretty much only care about Chris Pratt. I remember enjoying it, so I was looking forward to this one.
Jurassic World returns us to the island three years after the first disaster. Now, the volcano is threatening to destroy the island and the remaining dinosaurs with it. A debate is raging in Congress and around the world as to whether these endangered creatures should be rescued or allow nature to take its course. Claire and Owen return to the island to rescue as many of the dinosaurs as they can, funded by the Lockwood Estate. (Benjamin Lockwood being a former partner of John Hammond [originator of Jurassic Park], the two had a falling out before the original park opened).
Once on the island things take a nefarious turn, and the dark intentions behind the rescue take the movie in an entirely different direction than I expected. The story is more than a little convoluted, but in the end I think it mostly makes sense. It definitely seems to be a set up for another movie which I am ok with. There were lots of awesome dinosaur scenes, dinos being cute, being ferocious, being terrifying predators. There were perhaps a few too many dino roars for my ears, but it comes with the territory I suppose.
Overall I don't think the movie is groundbreaking or exceedingly clever, but it is a fun way to pass a couple hours. If you liked previous movies in this genre or just have a thing for dinosaurs, this one is for you!
